Building websites that everyone can use is part of building them properly, so we hold our own site to the same standard we build client sites to. This statement explains how accessible owen-lewis.com is, and how to tell us if something is not working for you.
How Accessible This Site Is
We have designed, built and tested this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard most widely used in the UK and referenced by the Equality Act 2010. As far as we are aware, the site meets that standard. This is our own assessment rather than an independent audit, and we keep testing as we add to the site.
In practice, that means you should be able to:
- navigate the whole site and complete every form using a keyboard alone, with a clear outline showing where you are;
- use it with a screen reader, with meaningful headings, labelled form fields and descriptive links;
- zoom in to 200%, or view the site on a narrow phone screen, without losing content or needing to scroll sideways;
- read the text comfortably, with colour contrast that meets the AA thresholds throughout;
- turn off motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, our animations stand still.
Known Limitations
No site is ever finished, and honesty is part of the point. The areas we are keeping an eye on are:
- Documents we send you. Proposals and invoices are delivered as PDFs by email rather than on the site. We aim to keep them clear and readable, but PDFs can be harder for assistive technology than a web page. If you would prefer the same information as plain text or a web page, just ask and we will send it that way.
- Older browsers. The site is built for current versions of the major browsers. On a very old browser some styling and motion may differ, though the content stays readable.
Tell Us If Something Is Not Working
If you find any part of this website difficult to use, or you need information from it in a different format, please let us know through our enquiry form. Tell us what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and we will do our best to put it right and to get back to you within a few working days.
We take this seriously: if we have missed something, we want to fix it, both here and for the people we build sites for.
Technical Information
owen-lewis.com is conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA, based on our own assessment. “Conformant” means the content meets the standard in full, to the best of our knowledge.
The site is built with standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and is designed to work with assistive technologies including recent versions of screen readers and with browser zoom and text-spacing adjustments. It does not use tracking cookies, pop-ups or chat widgets.
How We Tested
We assessed the site using automated tools (Google Lighthouse and the axe accessibility engine), together with manual checks: keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader testing, colour-contrast measurement, and viewing the site at 200% zoom and at mobile width. We test each new page or feature the same way before it goes live, and review the whole site at least once a year.
